Kookaburras at Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden

Kookaburras are fascinating birds known for their distinctive laughter, which sounds remarkably like human laughter.

    Here are some fun facts!

Kookaburras are the largest members of the kingfisher family, with the Laughing Kookaburra reaching up to 45 cm in length.

Kookaburras live in family groups and mate for life, with older siblings often helping to raise the younger chicks.

Their famous call serves to establish territory, often heard at dawn and dusk.

While native to Australia and New Guinea, kookaburras have adapted well to urban environments.
